Heartland Orthopedic Specialists celebrates Joint Replacement Center’s 5,000th patient

Heartland Orthopedic Specialists and Alomere Health are celebrating their 5,000th Joint Replacement Center patient since September 2008, Sheila Nilson. Performing the surgery was Dr. Paul Dale with Heartland Orthopedic Specialists at Alomere Health in Alexandria at 111 17th Ave. E. The landmark surgery attests to the steadfast success of the Alomere Health Joint Replacement Center (JRC) and the Joint Camp program.

Created in coordination with Heartland Orthopedic Specialists to provide an outstanding patient experience with advanced protocols to shorten patients’ hospital stays and improve the quality of their care, the JRC averages over 600 joint replacements per year while maintaining a 99.5 percent patient satisfaction rate.

Nilson, the 5,000th patient in the program, traveled from Burtrum with her husband, Randy, to have her left knee replaced by Dr. Dale at Alomere Health under the advisement of her primary care provider.

“I heard such wonderful things about the program,” says Nilson regarding the JRC. “The staff has been phenomenal and very nice,” she adds. Concerning her overall experience throughout the program, Nilson states, “It is a comfortable environment ... Alomere Health has such a handle on infection prevention.”

During the day of the 5,000th landmark surgery, eight patients at the JRC had a joint replacement and went through the Joint Camp program. Joint Camp is a seamless, step-by-step program from extensive pre-surgery education to a complete continuum of care following surgery to ensure that each patient will have the information, care and support they need throughout the entire process. Alomere Health celebrated with all eight patients that day with celebratory recovery baskets and thank-you cards in appreciation of them putting their trust in Alomere Health throughout their joint replacement journeys.

“This is a tremendous milestone for our Joint Replacement Center. Research shows high-volume facilities like Heartland Orthopedic Specialists and Alomere Health have better outcomes and lower complication rates for their patients,” says Administrative Director for Heartland Orthopedic Specialists Mike Doyle, M.B.A., A.T.C. “That is why we developed the integrated professional approach of the Joint Replacement Center. It’s truly a team approach to provide excellent care for our patients.”

“Since its inception in 2008, the JRC has helped thousands regain a more active, pain-free lifestyle. During this time, the surgeons at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists have had the privilege of providing state-of-the-art care to our patients requiring hip and knee replacement surgery,” says Dr. Dale, orthopedic surgeon at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists. “Working with a dedicated support team of nurses, therapists and physicians, we have been able to build and maintain a program which has gained national recognition for its excellent outcomes and satisfied patients. With ongoing review, reassessment and improvement, we expect to provide this excellent care for years to come.”
