Dr. Jefferson Brand, fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists and team orthopedic physician for the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars, is being inducted into the University of Minnesota Cougar Morris Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place September 21, 2018, on the University of Minnesota Morris campus at 600 E. Fourth St. in Morris. 

Since its inception in 1993, the Cougar Hall of Fame has not inducted a team medical provider until this year, making Dr. Brand the first Cougars team physician to be inducted. Dr. Brand has provided sports medicine coverage and specialized orthopedic care for the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars since 1991. 

“It is a great honor to receive this recognition and to be counted in the ranks of individuals with such commendable character,” Dr. Brand says. “I am committed to helping keep our athletic community strong, and it is truly rewarding to help Cougars and athletes throughout the region restore their function and stay in the game.” 

Dr. Brand is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon fellowship-trained in sports medicine with a subspecialty certificate in orthopedic sports medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Actively involved in the orthopedic community, he has given numerous medical presentations regionally, nationally and internationally. He has also been published by and served as an editor for several leading orthopedic journals. In addition to his commitments at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists, Dr. Brand is a visiting professor at the University of Louisville, where he has lectured on surgical techniques in sports medicine and related treatments. 

When he’s not lecturing or providing sports medicine coverage for a total of nine area high schools and colleges, Dr. Brand sees patients in Alexandria at 111 Seventeenth Ave. E., Suite 101; in Willmar at 2800 First St. S., Suite 220; and in Morris at 24 E. Seventh St.
